About the person

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Musalek is a renowned specialist in Psychiatry and Neurology as well as Psychiatry and Psychotherapeutic Medicine. He has had an extensive career as a psychotherapist and as a Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical University of Vienna. Prof. Musalek also served as the medical director of the Anton Proksch Institute in Vienna and is currently a professor and chairman of the Institute for Social Aesthetics and Mental Health at the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna and Berlin. Additionally, he is the President of the European Society for Aesthetics and Medicine.

Throughout his long career, Prof. Musalek has also been the President of the Austrian Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and a board member of the European Psychiatric Association for 25 years. He headed the Section on Psychopathology and the Section on Clinical Psychopathology of the World Psychiatric Association and is a member of the Ethics Committee of the European Psychiatric Association. As an honorary member of the World Psychiatric Association, Prof. Musalek has authored over 300 scientific publications and serves as an editor and scientific advisory board member for various scientific and clinical journals.

His main research interests include social aesthetics, the phenomenology of mental disorders, mental health sciences, theoretical psychopathology, medical humanities, and clinical diagnostics and treatment research.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Musalek ist ein renommierter Facharzt für Psychiatrie und Neurologie sowie für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapeutische Medizin. Er hat eine umfangreiche Karriere als Psychotherapeut und als Professor für Psychiatrie an der Medizinischen Universität Wien. Prof. Musalek war zudem der ärztliche Leiter des Anton Proksch Instituts in Wien und ist gegenwärtig Professor sowie Vorsitzender des Instituts für Sozialästhetik und psychische Gesundheit an der Sigmund Freud Universität in Wien und Berlin. Darüber hinaus ist er Präsident der Europäischen Gesellschaft für Ästhetik und Medizin.

In seiner langjährigen Karriere war Prof. Musalek auch Präsident der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie und für 25 Jahre Vorstandsmitglied der Europäischen Psychiatrischen Vereinigung. Er leitete die Sektion Psychopathologie sowie die Sektion Klinische Psychopathologie der Welt-Psychiatrievereinigung und ist Mitglied des Ethikausschusses der Europäischen Psychiatrischen Vereinigung. Als Ehrenmitglied der Welt-Psychiatrievereinigung hat Prof. Musalek mehr als 300 wissenschaftliche Publikationen verfasst und ist Herausgeber sowie Mitglied des wissenschaftlichen Beirats verschiedener wissenschaftlicher und klinischer Zeitschriften.

Seine Hauptforschungsinteressen umfassen die Sozialästhetik, die Phänomenologie psychischer Störungen, die Wissenschaften der psychischen Gesundheit, die theoretische Psychopathologie, die medizinischen Geisteswissenschaften sowie die klinische Diagnostik und Behandlungsforschung.
